Simple Simon says obey your mother and father

In Kenya I heard this brilliant (by brilliant i mean awful) song about mothers' day, with the lyrics: 'Noooo, I can't wait / Until the month of May / To wish you happy Mothers' Day'.

Genius. But it reminded me of a few great songs about parents. Who'd have thought it would be cool to sing a song about your parents? And who can start that song with 'bing bing biddy bong bong biddy bong bong biddy bong boing' and still make a great track? The answer is Simple Simon, who seems to be a bit of an Eek-a-Mouse rip-off, but makes for a pretty brilliant one anyway. I know basically know nothing about him, except for he died of throat cancer, refused to have his voice box removed so he could keep on singing.
Turns out he's not the only one preaching about the importance of the rents, here are two other great reggae tracks from Desmond Dekker (above) and White Mice, cracking out some old classic biblical quotes.

Simple Simon - Obey your mother and father

Desmond Dekker - Honour your mother and father

White Mice - Love Mom and Dad
